Y5 Trip to Hastings

This was a very successful trip that benefited from excellent weather for once, unheard of in previous trips. The children were very well behaved and coped well with the hour minibus ride. After some juice and biscuits we got down to the tour proper.

We followed the route around the battlefield stopping off at key points to take a look at the battle from the point of view of first the Normans down at the bottom of the slope and then later from atop the hill looking down as the Saxons would have done.  Added to this the children got to re-enact the battle with 5P taking on the role of the Saxons and 5L taking on the role of the Normans. We then went to look at the plaque that supposedly marks the exact spot where Harold Godwineson was killed.

The final activity of the day was to use the Education Centre to look at a virtual recreation of the battle as well as take on some different information on the background of the Saxon Kings and Norman Dukes. The children behaved very well and hopefully learned lots about the battle and events that they would not have been able to without this visit.
